Once again Manchester School Of Art provided an excellent Degree show. Bringing together Product Design, Fine Art, Fashion, Art Direction, Graphic Design, Furniture Design, Interactive Arts in a dynamic body of work. Always visionary + ambitious + experimental the students year on year produce cutting edge work in a cutting edge city. Make sure you pencil it into your diaries for next year to see the next generation of creatives before the rest of the world does, its that good!
Five Comma is the brand created by Hyejin Jeong who hails from South Korea. We are very pleased to bring to the store her collection titled City Project Berlin. Gorgeous canvas bags + divine hand woven pure wool handles, the collection was inspired when she spent some time in the vibrant city of Berlin.
In Jeong's own words 'Poster on the wall, graffiti on someone, signs on the construction site . These tiny elements are naturally blended in every corner of the street. There are cities that make wit. For me Berlin was such a city. I collected the sculptures of the street that I encountered while travelling in Berlin and made it into one long pattern. (Like graffiti and signs surrounding the building) I hope that these patterns will become small pieces and stay somewhere in the city'.

The latest creator to join Cup + Cloth is Scottish artist Emma McDowall. Studio Emma was created after a year of discovering her love of concrete whilst experimenting with recipes and moulds within her mother’s humble garden shed, Emma now creates a collection of contemporary concrete products. From vessels to art objects and homeware, each piece is carefully cast by hand in her Edinburgh studio. Every product is completely unique in its colour, texture and design, with many pieces still moulded using found or recycled materials. Emma focuses on the interplay between colour and material, celebrating the naturally occurring surface pattern and textural imperfections. We love Emma's work, the deep saturated pigment tones of her vessels are as pure as colour gets. Find her collection in the MADE section in the store.
We are so excited to get our hands on these unique stunning blankets and rugs hand commissioned by us. A Lizhnyk is a stunning hand loomed rug + blanket made from the wool of sheep raised in the Carpathian high mountain pastures of the Ukraine. We collaborated on the colours and designs used, to create these wonderful items of pure utter beauty. The rug has is shaggy on one side + and a smoother boucle weave texture on the flip side. The Hutsul people believe the blankets carry healing properties, either way it will give you years of pleasure on the floor + bed + hang on the wall. Find them in the SOURCED section in the store.

Alice Heaton is the latest Northern designer to join us at C + C, her vessels are stunning in colour + form. She works primarily in hot glass, taking inspiration from nature + producing dynamic blown sculptural pieces. Alice graduated with a first class Honours in Design Crafts at De Montfort University. Her pieces are equally decorative as they are functional, we hope you love her work as much as we do!

Our mid century inspired plant pot holder looks mighty fine here sitting next to this wonderful Illustration of British Corvids, part of a British birds study by the very talented Dick Vincent who is based in the north of the England. Steven Heelham AKA Ladysheep is our second artist to showcase on WALL. Based in Manchester 1966 to present day. Ladysheeps work is truly diverse, he paints with such ease faces of girls dreamy + pouting in all their beautiful glory. In contrast his mixed media collage collection is a little more edgy, the subject can make the viewer feel a little uneasy, with the subjects slightly distorted in posture. He goes from cute to darkside in a wonderful + concise body of work. Steve is influenced by the urban vernacular + faux sophistication personified by the 1970's sitcom The Likely Lads, Terry + Bob. 'An innuendo of suburban behind closed curtain sexual fumblings adds frisson to the naive style'. Lovely! Go check his work, he plays on your emotions, you will feel all warm + nice with the beauty of Girl posing, then straight to the dark side in one easy swoop!
